***Tips for Making Exercise Resolutions Stick***
We've all been there. Whether you are planning on Olympic gold or just improved health, it's easy to get fired up for day one, but somehow on day thirty you're right back on your couch eating Cheetos? Well take a look at these tips on setting a new exercise routine and sticking to it, and you'll be fit as a fiddle, forever. Check it out.
You're Not Alone In Your Resolution
Think of starting this new exercise routine as joining a team. People all over the world take a little time out of every day to exercise, the same as they do for eating, sleeping, and working. Exercise has been proven to reduce and eliminate symptoms of depression, and can lead to a generally healthier, happier life. And, if all these other people can do it, you can, too. You might start seeing the secret nods people give you walking down the street, or just the way the air smells sweeter, strolls feel better, and sleep comes easier. And, there are one or two other things that get much better, too.
Set Realistic Exercise Goals
Without a doubt, the hardest part of any workout is just showing up. So make your resolution as much about just getting yourself out the door on any given day, as you do getting yourself in shape. If you just show up, the rest is easy.
Next, be realistic about the goals you set for yourself. When you're starting out you and your trainer will discuss why you decided to start working out at Curves, and what it is you expect from the workout.
Your first workout does not need to be hard. In fact, you will probably spend your first few workouts just getting use to the equipment. As you begin to feel comfortable about your form on each machine you can start to push yourself and come up to speed on that machine. Remember you want to challenge yourself Recruiting a buddy to work out with you can be a great way to stay motivated, too.
Visualize Succeeding at Your Exercise Resolutions
As you're exercising, see your body evolving into its new, buff form right before your eyes. Picture your end goal in your mind and concentrate on how great you look and feel, for a few minutes every day. When you finish your workout, feel good about the fact that you've done it, and conquered the dragons of lethargy and sloth once again. Which can be pretty big dragons! Also, don't be afraid to reward yourself after a workout, too, so long as it's not a triple cheese fatty mcfat burger with lardy animal fries.
Remain Focused on the Goal
Remember to stay focused on what you want, both in your workout and in life in general. On your exercise days, make the choice to do something good for yourself, something you know you're going to feel better after doing. Nobody but you is going to get you to the club.
As a little shoe company once said it, perhaps best, just... do it. Finally, don't be discouraged by setbacks. There's every likelihood that you may stumble and miss a day here or there, just don't let it knock you off track. Get back up, dust yourself off, redouble your resolve, and never look back. And before you know it, you really will be a new you.
